Why China Will Not Accept A Nuclear Armed North Korea

Sarah Zheng, South China Morning Post: Three reasons China will not accept a nuclear armed North Korea

China’s ambassador to the US has said Beijing will not accept a nuclear armed North Korea amid the crisis over Pyongyang’s rapidly escalating weapons programme.

Cui Tiankai’s comments on Friday came after some experts and observers have said global powers should accept that Pyongyang has nuclear weapons and policy should now be directed at ensuring they do not use them.

Here are three reasons why China is so opposed to Kim Jong-un’s regime having nuclear arms:

WNU Editor: The Chinese that I know are horrified with what is happening in North Korea .... but they are too late. On my last trip to China a few years ago I was always talking about North Korea and the growing backlash against China's trade policies, but my Chinese hosts only wanted to talk about border disputes in the South China Sea and their dispute with Japan over a few islands. To them .... Chinese sovereignty and nationalism ruled the day, and issues like North Korea/tariff and trade restrictions/etc. were not even on their radar.. Today .... when I talk to them on Skype .... nothing but trade and North Korea.

You and I know different Chinese. The Chinese I know are laughing their asses off and are celebrating about what's happening now,and even more so about what is likely to happen -- trillions of dollar losses to the US. They party over there. Again, which Chinese are you talking to? :)

"China’s ambassador to the US has said Beijing will not accept a nuclear armed North Korea"

More talk. Just talk.

Actions are as follows:
Not only accepted a nuclear North Korea, but helped them to get there, by:

a. Selling them the rocket fuel(!)
b. Selling them the nuclear mobile missile launchers(!)
c. Being the BIGGEST trading partner, despite sanctions
d. Defending them in front of the UN until last month
e. Telling the US it cannot attack North Korea(!)

Is this guy for real?
China has been the number one, single biggest enabler of North Korea and helped them to get the rockets ready, literally sold the rocket fuel to them.

And now the show starts "we so sorry, we don't want North Korea to be nuclear, don't get us involved"

Yeah, right

No disrespect WNU but I gree with other anon. The chinese think they are master strategists & it has paid off for a long time. But deep down we know how they act and why they are doing it. Unless they learn some respect for other humans our war with the chinese is definitely coming. My HK chinese partner has told me countless stories about chinese behaviour in HK, like taking a dump in front of everyone on the train instead of finding a loo. She explains to me that for a lot of chinese this new prosperity is very new for them & they don't know how to act appropriate ( still in mindset to scramble over others to get what you want) . I think there is hope that over the next few decades they will see some error in there ways. We are screwed if they don't. Thanks barrack for taking it in the bum from the chinese & those before him.

I think North Korea is going to be nuked. I think we would be shocked to know how close they have come in the last month or so. They are playing the ultimate Russian roulette.

Anon,
I concur that the Chinese are having a problem with their new status. I like to always say that culturally they are thousands of years old .... and no one can match that. But politically .... this part of the culture is new (unlike countries like the U.S. or the U.K. where the political culture is very old), and they are having trouble finding their role. But they are learning fast.
